Lift Truck Parts in More Detail
There are numerous components that make up a lift truck. The lift truck's major parts consist of the truck frame, the engine parts, the tilt cylinders, the overhead guard and the wheels. What's more, a lift truck has different types of attachments. All the parts making up a lift truck are all important as they work together to make the machine's operation possible. The next paragraphs describe in detail several of the forklift components.
The Overhead Guard - The overhead guard is really the forklifts metal roof, which sits atop the operator cab. It's job is to protect the operator while they are utilizing the machine. The overhead guard makes sure that nothing falling from above onto the truck will hurt the driver or damage the controls inside the cab. The overhead guard is vital to the frame assembly on some models.
The Mast - Mounted either to the forklift frame or the front axle, the mast is the vertical forklift component made of interlocking rails. The mast enables the forks to move up and down whilst providing lateral stability. The interlocking rails may either have bushings or bushings as guides. There are a couple of ways the mast may be operated: hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders or chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor.
Lift Truck Carriage - The carriage is the part that the forks and different other kinds of attachments are mounted to. Actually, the carriage is directly connected to the hydraulic cylinder and is connected by chains. To be able to allow the forks to be raised and lowered, the carriage could have either rollers or bushings to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - a back rest is a metal rack which prevents a load from falling backwards while the carriage is lifted to its full height. The back rest is either bolted or welded on to the carriage.
Lift Truck Attachments - There are numerous types of attachments which could be fixed directly to the lift truck's carriage. Forks are the most common type of attachment. Furthermore, there are L-shaped members, rollers, rotators, pole handlers, roll clamps and so on. These different attachments are handy for transporting different kinds of loads.
